Why do the arms of spiral galaxies appear blue in visible-light images?
A) The arms are usually moving toward us, so they are Doppler shifted to blue wavelengths.
B) The gas and dust in the arms filter out all but the blue light from stars in the arms.
C) Active star formation is occurring in the spiral arms, and the brightest young stars are blue.
D) Most of the stars of the disk are in the spiral arms and their light makes the arms appear blue.
I'm pretty sure it is C since blue stars surround the arms, but I am not completely sure. Can anyone confirm this or say if another answer is better?
