In video editing, what is a "Power Window"?

I'm having some trouble with a short film that I am producing. I have a scene that's suppose to take place in a home that's been condemned for three years, and we're "investigating" with a night shot camera. So the entire scene is shot in night shot, but it's still obvious that some over head lights were left on. The scene was kind of rushed, it's an oversight I've learned to watch for from now on as a director. Anyway, I was listening to the "Clerks 2" technical commentary and I heard the DP talking about putting a "Power Window" around certain elements in a shot during post production so he could dial down the brightness, saturation, etc. of just say, a light or a window and not affect the brightness of his actors or set elements. Is anybody familiar with this term and where should I look to get more information about it?

the Power window they refer to the window or gate that controls exposition for the answer print i.e.when transferring from negative to positive or from reversible to final print. However to manipulate the light they must pass that section independently through the gate to control the exposure of light and manipulate it. This takes place in the film processing lab, and you can ask for further corrections that they can do for you. COMPOSING ETC
