What track activity is best for me?
I'm pretty short, like 5'3. People say I'm flexible, but it's like a dancer's flexibility, so I don't really know. I have rhythm, and I sprint pretty fast, just not for a long time.(I can run for long period though) I can run a mile in 6-7 minutes. Is that bad?
I want to do hurdles, but I think I'm too stocky for it. I think slender people have a better advantage for it. What do you think? Cross country?
In general, for track your either a sprinter, middle distance runner, long distance runner or perform in a specialty event such as the high jump, pole vault, shot put, steeple chase, etc. If you have the ability to run a 6 minute mile your probably a middle distance runner and have the potential to do events from 400 meters to cross country. Most track runners that run events 800 meters and over in general run XC and track to condition their bodies. 800 meter runners aren't expected to place high in XC since their specialty is 2 laps compared to the 5K. However, conditioning and practice is vital for middle distance runners especially speed workouts. Your body is dynamic so you can always improve. Learn to run multiple events especially if your young. Track your PR's in multiple events and run in the team relays. Your find early enough if your a sprinter, long distance runner or in between.
