What's wrong woth my porch light?
Ok, here we go. Bought the house a year ago. New construction, stick-built, etc. The front porch light (overhead, Home Depot, "cheapie" contractor-grade) has never worked. A month in, I replaced the bulb and put it on "the list" to be looked at. Today, I tested the power at the light... 122.4v at hot, 122.6v at neutral. I figured "bad light". As luck would have it, the light on the back porch is identical and works, so I switched them... nothing! How is this possible?? What am I missing? On the light fixture, on the back of the socket, I got the voltage readings given... there are three spots there and all have voltage when I ground at the ground wire... is this correct?
First check the voltage before the the switch and after the switch when it is on to trouble shoot the front porch light, If the voltage is different after the Switch that would be the culprit. I suspect a bad fixture of a improper neutral (White wire)
