Proper electrical grounding.?

I recently installed a Track Lighting fixture on my living room ceiling. The junction box contained a red, black, white and bare copper wire. The fixture contained a black, white and green wire. I connected black to black and white to white. Then I connected the green wire from the fixture to the green grounding screw on the mounting plate that came with the fixture. But I left the bare copper wire by itself in the junction box and didn't connect it to anything. Is that OK? The light fixture seems to work just fine and I don't get any electrical shock when i touch the fixture. I also left the red wire in the junction box by itself. ????? first time doing any electrical work....

If you have a red wire you most likely have a 3-way switch being used. The red is the traveler in the circuit. If the 2nd switch isn't being used then you don't really have any problem. If the 2nd switch is turned on, then the switch you are using will not work. If everything seems to work great, I would still get up and cap off the red wire so it doesn't accidentally touch anything just in case the other switch gets used later. If the other switch gets turned on, the power will be going through the red wire and not the black. The ground wire doesn't matter as long as you put the fixture ground on the grounding screw.
